While surfers are often dedicated environmentalists, their boards are not exactly mother natures best friend. Surfboards contain some pretty awful toxins, so when a board breaks, those chemicals have traditionally found a new home in a landfill. Now, however, San Diego surfers can drop off their busted up boards at the Miramar Recycling Center for free!

The boards are sent to a local company called Eco Built, where they are ground up and used as a filler in concrete mixtures. The Miramar Recycling Center is located at 5165 Convoy St., San Diego, CA 92111.

See the PDF flyer for additional details about the surfboard recycling program.
